The Enhanced General Data Dissemination System (e-GDDS) superseds the General Data Dissemination System (GDDS). Effective 1 May 2015, it focuses on the dissemination of data essential for surveillance and has three main objectives: (1) to produce and disseminate a fully operational National Summary Data Page (NSDP), supported by modern IT technology; (2) to provide a framework for evaluating needs for data improvement and dissemination as well as setting capacity developments priorities; and (3) to encourage participating countries to improve data quality. The e-GDDS framework is comprised of four dimensions: (a) coverage, periodicity, and timeliness of data; (b) access by the public; (c) integrity of the disseminated data; and (d) quality of the disseminated data. For each of the four dimensions, the e-GDDS describes good practices that serve as objectives in the development of national systems of data production and dissemination.
The e-GDDS encourages the dissemination of 15 macroeconomic data categories covering real sector, fiscal sector, financial sector, and external sector, as well as the establishment of National Summary Data Pages and Advanced Release Calendars. Effective May 1, 2015, the 112 GDDS participants were moved to the e-GDDS baseline. Currently, there are 111 participants in the e-GDDS. Full details on participants' metadata and plans for improvement are posted on the Dissemination Standards Bulletin Board (DSBB; http://dsbb.imf.org).
